Having a passion for fabric and thread means not only an opportunity to create beautiful quilts for yourself, but an opportunity to give back to the community through quilt philanthropy programs and projects.  There are an unbelievable number of organizations changing the world - one quilt at a time!

Charity Quilt Programs

Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative - A grassroots effort to raise awareness and fund research to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease featuring a nationwide touring quilt exhibit and an ongoing art quilt donation program.

Binky Patrol - A coalition of local organizations making quilts and giving them away to children and teens in need of comfort across the country.

Home of the Brave Quilt Project - A grassroots movement to provide replica quilts to the next of kin of those soldiers who gave their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Prayers & Squares - An interfaith outreach ministry combining the gift of prayer with the gift of a hand-tied quilt, distributed to those in special need prayer.

Project Linus - Providing love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through new, handmade quilts, lovingly created by "blanketeers."

Quilt for a Cause - Auctioning handmade quilts donated by quilters to support breast and gynecologic cancer research.

Quilts for Kids - Transforming discontinued designer fabrics into quilts that comfort children with cancer, AIDS, and other life threatening illnesses as well as battered & abused children.

The Snuggles Project - Providing physical and psychological comfort to shelter animals through small quilts while they await their new homes.

Ugly Quilts - Distributing quilts made from scraps, old clothes, bedspreads and any spare materials to homeless shelters.

Warm Hearts Warm Babies - Sewn, knitted, crocheted and quilted donations for premature infants and babies in need in Colorado.

Wrap Them in Love Foundation - Collecting donated quilts and distributing them to children around the world, so they can be wrapped in the love of a quilt.

Memorial Quilt Projects

The AIDS Memorial Quilt - A memorial quilt designed to foster healing, heighten awareness, and inspire action in the struggle against HIV and AIDS.

Huntington's Disease Memorial Quilt - A memorial quilt honoring loved ones suffering from Huntington's Disease as well as their friends and family members.

Patches of Love - An ever-growing memorial quilt dedicated to those who gave the gift of life through organ or tissue donation.

Quilt of Tears - Quilts that draw attention to the plight of veterans effected by Agent Orange used during the Vietnam War.

A Quilt to Remember - A memorial quilt sponsored by the Alzheimer's Foundation of America with panels paying tribute to individuals with dementia as well as others committed to eliminating Alzheimer's disease.

WQ and You Charity Giving

Because I'm dedicated to creating the quilts my customers have always wanted, I rarely have the opportunity to make or donate quilts to good causes.  But it's still important to me to give back, too, which is why my husband and I started a Whimzie Quiltz inspired charity giving program a couple of years ago. For 2012,"WQ and You" will be giving sick kids a reason to smile - one pillowcase at a time! With each and every Whimzie Quiltz custom order, I'll be making two colorful, fun 100% cotton pillowcases for children who are battling life changing illnesses as part of ConKerr Cancer's A Case for Smiles program.
